Since 1968, Brannon Steel has been an industry leader supplying quality carbon steel parts to manufacturers and custom fabricators throughout Canada and the United States.
Swing and sway
In 2010, Brannon Steel opened a facility near its headquarters in Brampton, Ontario, in a building with 10 overhead cranes. Soon after moving in, Brannon Steel discovered the cranes would not suit their steel-making process, as even the lowest speed setting on the crane was too fast to lift 40-foot long sheets of steel without load sway.
Slow and steady
As a longtime customer of Konecranes, Brannon Steel reached out to their local Konecranes service branch for guidance. Both parties determined that purchasing new bridge motors and gear reducers would be unnecessarily expensive, as would purchasing a new hoist; so Konecranes suggested installing Variable Frequency Drives to slow down the cranes. Konecranes has since upgraded six of their 10 hoists and installed a new radio control system. The facility has started replacing the cranes with Konecranes CXT hoists, equipped with TRUCONNECT Remote Monitoring.
“Now, our cranes work like a dream.” says David Lee, special products manager, Brannon Steel.
