One of the most expensive parts of crane repair is not the cost of the actual repair. It is the loss of operating income that results when a crane is out of service. Your downtime cost can be extremely high when you consider your wasted business support cost, and your loss of business opportunity cost.

A good crane service provider helps your facility operate more safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. In an industry where every hour of production impacts business, it’s simply not acceptable to wait for parts, undo the faulty repairs of an inexperienced technician, or halt operations only to have your annual inspection delayed or cancelled. Fortunately, the right crane service provider not only avoids these mistakes, but it also adds value by finding ways to improve your operations and control service costs.
One of the largest international steel mills in the world produces flat rolled steel coils for Ford, GM and Chrysler. The mill uses four Electrical Overhead Traveling cranes to transport 125 tons of metal slabs across a pair of #175 rails for the 1,700 ft runway yard. The cranes operate 24/7, and the constant movement creates abrasive and adhesive friction that can take a toll on bridge wheel flanges. When flanges get too thin, the wheels must be replaced.
Stupp Corporation makes a comprehensive size range of custom steel pipe. At 2 a.m. on September 19, 2012, Konecranes service manager Stephen Doyle received a callout on a catastrophic failure of a 54-ton coil bay overhead crane in the company’s spiral mill. The root cause of the mishap was undetermined, but the results were clear. The hoist frame was severely damaged and the crane was completely inoperable.
